Former chief minister and JD(S) leader, HD Kumaraswamy, is gunning for the state government over the Hosur Road bus burning case. On Saturday, he alleged that the BJP buried the case, following Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi’s statements over the Ram Sethu issue in 2007.

The state government suppressed facts to help the RSS, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagaran Vedike, alleged Kumaraswamy. Most of the accused in the case belong to these outfits and  hence, the BJP gave a ‘silent burial’ to the case.

Former home minister VS Acharya’s relative Ganesh Udupa, prime accused Suryanarana and others have been given a clean chit by the fast-track court.

By intervening in the investigation, the state government has misused its power, he said. The fast-track court acquitted all the accused as the witnesses turned hostile two years ago.

But the government has not filed an appeal and this shows the BJP is trying to hush up the case, said the former chief minister. “But we will not allow (them) to hush up the case, we will take it to the logical end,” said Kumaraswamy.

He termed the bus burning incident as the “state’s Godhra.” The JD (S) and Congress plan to take up the issue in the legislative session on Monday by moving a special adjournment motion against the government. “The BJP should explain its views or hand over the case to the CBI for investigation,” said Kumaraswamy.

He warned that if the government fails to reopen the issue, his party would seek the Supreme Court’s intervention. He demanded the appointment of special investigation team to bring the culprits to book.

Meanwhile, law and parliamentary affairs minister S Suresh Kumar has rejected Kumaraswamy’s allegations, calling it baseless and as politically motivated.

“This has nothing to do with the investigation, court decision or state government.  Based on the evidence, a fast-track court acquitted the accused,” said Kumar.
