Bill to create parking facility at Karnataka high court okayed

The Karnataka state assembly on Wednesday passed the Karnataka Government Parks (Protection) Amendment Bill 2011 to enable the state government to utilise the part of the land coming under Cubbon Park to provide parking facilities at the high court premises.

About 18,028 sq m of land between the high court and the KGID building on Ambedkar Veedhi would be utilised for providing vehicle parking facilities for lawyers and visitors to high court.

The bill assures that the plan would not affect existing trees in the park to provide parking facilities for advocates.

The house also approved the Karnataka Regulation and Control of Stone Crushers Bill, 2011. The bill, in accordance with the high court order to formulate a policy for regulating the business of stone crushing, lays down stringent conditions in this regard.

The bill provides for constituting an Appellate Authority headed by the regional commissioner at the state-level and district stone crushers regulation committee headed by the respective deputy commissioners for issuing licenses for stone crushing and regulating their fubill stipulates that stone crushers should be at least 2km away from the national highways, 1.5km from the state highways and at least 500m from link roads.

Such units should be kept at least 8km from municipal corporation limits and 4km from district headquarters.
