The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday asked the state government to produce reports by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Justice Sadashiva Commission on May 15 in the case related to the appointment of Shankar Mahadev Bidari as DG&IGP.

HC issued the order after a petition was moved in the wake of the Supreme Court order that stayed the earlier HC verdict quashing the Bidari’s appointment as DG&IGP. SC had asked HC to consider the case afresh.

It may be recalled that on March 30 Bidari had lost his job as DG&IGP for alleged violation of human rights against tribal people and women during his tenure as the head of the Special Task Force (STF) constituted to capture forest brigand Veerappan. HC had quashed his appointment and directed the state government to appoint DG (Home Guards and Fire Services) AR Infant as DG&IGP.

Bidari had challenged HC’s order in SC which had then stayed HC’s verdict. A bench comprising Justice Aftab Alam and Justice CK Prasad had asked HC to examine the matter afresh and settle it before May 31.
