The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Ganesh Mandir ward corporator L Govindaraju, who became infamous after being caught red-handed by the Lok Ayukta sleuths while allegedly receiving bribe from builder Udaykumar, has once again landed in trouble.
On Friday, more than 20 people barged into his office alleging that the corporator was trying to sell off a 30x40 ft land near Lakshmappa Garden, which was sold to one Akkathamma’s husband by Govindaraju’s father Lakshmappa, 25 years ago.
Lakshmappa died, but the land had not been registered in Akkathamma’s name. According to Akkathamma’s son Manjunatha, Govindaraju had agreed to register the land in his mother’s name, but never did it.
He alleged that Govindaraju had put up their house, which is constructed on the said piece of land, on sale. A ‘House for sale’ board that had Govindaraju’s phone number, was put up in front of the house.
“We saw the board and came to his office. How can he display board stating the house is for sale,” he said.
With the situation getting worse, the police intervened and called for a compromise between Manjunatha and Govindaraju.
When contacted, Govindaraju, had a different story to tell. “Manjunatha is a Congress worker and has been with me for the past 10 years. My father had sold this land to his father 25 years ago for Rs22,000.
But the property was not registered and Manjunatha requested me for it. I had agreed to it,” said Govindaraju.
He said their relationship was strained when Congress leader Gurappa Naidu, who lost to home minister R Ashoka, instigated Manjunatha against Govindaraju.
“The Congress party is holding a procession in Padmanabha Nagar on Sunday, and Naidu doesn’t want me to attend it. He is jealous as I am close to Ashoka. He has also spread rumours of me joining the BJP. To create more trouble, Gurappa Naidu is now using Manjunatha. It’s all politically motivated,” he said.
Govindaraju said that everything was sorted out between Manjunatha and him and he will to register the land in Manjunatha’s name.
