A 32-year-old computer teacher feigned love and conned five women colleagues into giving him their gold ornaments and money on promises of marrying them. He was arrested on Thursday, police said.

Each of the women kept their affair a secret, which helped Sheikh Mukthiyar alias Nayaz, the alleged serial lover employed at Kuvatul Islam School, to carry on with his con job.

Nayaz’s cover was blown when the women started talking to each other. He had earlier prohibited each of his lovers from talking to each other. After realising that she had been cheated, one of the lady teachers lodged a complaint with the KG Halli police on June 1.

The police laid a trap with the help of the complainant. The woman told investigators that she was to meet him at a bus shelter in KG Halli around 3.30 pm on Thursday. Police said they arrested Nayaz when he went to meet the woman.

Following his arrest, four other women came forward, saying they too were cheated. The police, however, were suspecting that more women might have fallen prey to Nayaz’s guiles.

“It seems more than 10 woman were cheated by him. But they have not come forward, fearing the consequences if their identities have been revealed,” an investigating officer said.
Police said Nayaz took jewellery from the women on the pretext of performing a month-long puja in a graveyard.

“He made them into believing that the gold should be buried in the graveyard a month as part of the puja, so that they would have a happy married life,” the officer said. Blinded with love, the women gave him their ornaments.

Nayaz frequently took money from the women citing financial difficulties. Police said he hailed from a wealthy family. His sister is the principal in a city-based private college. Investigators recovered a part of the jewellery from the accused.

He had pledged the remaining gold with various pawn brokers. The money taken from the women had already been spent. Police said he had cheated the women to the tune of more than Rs5 lakh.
