The authorities are yet to ascertain what caused the fire that broke out in KR Market on Monday night. Preliminary reports estimated the total loss at Rs15 lakh.

The fire control room told DNA that the officials who visited the spot have not yet submitted a report. The police washed their hands off the accident, blaming the fire department for not filing the report. The fire broke out around 11pm, affecting 30 shopkeepers who sell flowers, incense sticks and dishes.

The fire emanated from the flower shops in the market before spreading to other areas. More than six shops were gutted. The police said that the fire extinguishers in the market were not maintained properly. About 15 fire-tenders rushed to the spot and doused the fire by 4am on Tuesday.

Thamaiah, the owner of a flower shop, filed a complaint with the City Market police. In the complaint, other shopkeepers too stated the loss they suffered due to the fire.
