Whether you sell juice or eclipse goggles, cloud computing can help you monitor your business on the go. Bangalore-based firm Wolf Frameworks shows NT Balanarayan how.
All it takes is three steps and zero payment to start controlling your data on the web,” says Sunny Ghosh, director of Wolf Frameworks, a Bangalore-based company that’s trying to bring the very geeky concept of cloud computing to smaller businesses.
Cloud computing was the buzzword last year, but even now we only hear of big companies using cloud-based services while smaller firms and individuals remain oblivious to such a concept, which can not only bring down costs of operation radically, but can also help monitoring businesses on the move.
Wolf Frameworks, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) provider based out of the city, provides not just affordable, but free hosting for data.
The company was founded last year by Sunny Ghosh and Ralph Vaz and their offerings are targeted at small businesses and individuals who’re looking at ways to automate processing and store the information at a centralised location without worrying about the cost. “We understand the trouble start-ups face in the initial stage, so we don’t charge at all for up to two users,” says Ghosh.
“Using our service you can create applications for your business, without knowing a single line of code, by simply clicking and dropping items you need. There are very few cloud-based operators who provide such a service. And once you’ve created your application you’re free to do anything you want with it. You can re-sell it to another client, you can add more users and so on,” Ghosh adds.
The site is very simple, you fill in your email id, address and a password you would like to use, activate the account from an email that’s sent to your email id and you’re good to go. No need for a credit card number even. Once you log in, you have an option to create an application or just ‘copy’ an existing application available on Frameworks.
For example, if you want to create a billing application, there are plenty of apps already available. You can select one of them and make changes to the ‘business rules’ later on.
Bangalore-based fruit juice vending chain Juice Junction, which has 31 retail stores across the city, is one of the companies, that’s automated their systems using Wolf Frameworks. Using the application they were able to categorise operations and data so that different teams worked with data relevant to them alone. The head office was provided with access to the data from all the retail outlets for performance analysis and verification. The application interface was designed to be similar to the excel sheets to reduce the learning curve.
Since the entire data was on the cloud and all it required was a browser, the application was up and running within 13 working days.
“All our apps use https ensuring high data security with 128-bit encryption-enabled URLs, apart from access-controlled role based user system with options to export data based upon individual login,” explains Ghosh.
The cheap service and customisation aside, one of the points Ghosh stresses on is data portability. “In most cloud services, there is no way for you to retrieve all your data. So you are forced to manually update data in case you decide to change the service provider. But with Wolf, we ensure complete data portability,” he says.
