Three persons, including a woman, were killed in as many accidents since Sunday midnight. Ten persons were injured in these mishaps.

A reportedly inebriated car driver mowed down two motorcycles, killing one rider and injuring another on Kottanur Main Road near Hennur on Monday evening,

The police identified the deceased as Raja Reddy, 30. He had been working as the driver of Concorde School.

The injured man, Alexander, 23, also a driver, was taken to the Bowring Hospital. Both the men were residents of Geddadhahalli, police said.

The men were riding separate motorcycles when the Tata Indigo Marina car hit them around 7.30 pm.

The car driver, Ullasa, 30, of Jeevanbhima Nagar, who the police suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol, has been arrested, police said.

In another chain accident involving a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus, a lorry and a car on Monday, a woman, Uma Devi, 38, of Devanahalli, was killed, and eight others were injured. The deceased and the injured persons were travelling in a Mysore-bound bus from Bangalore.

According to the police, the accident happened when the lorry driver applied brakes to avoid hitting a parked Tata Indica car around 8.30 in Kanmani Village near Hejjala on Mysore Road. The bus, which was speeding behind the lorry, rammed into it while attempting to overtake it. The lorry hit the car, damaging it. The passengers in the car, however, escaped unhurt.

Devi died instantly, police said, adding that the injured were rushed to BGS Global and Rajarajeshwari hospitals. Bus conductor Bhagyamma, and passenger Srikantha, were in a critical condition at BGS Global. Besides the conductor and Srikantha, passengers Jayamma, Satheesha, Shivram, Siddaraju and Praveen were also injured. Praveen hails from Bangalore.

The bus driver, whose identity was not revealed, fled soon after the mishap, which held up vehicular traffic on the Mysore Road for more than one hour, said GR Vijay Kumar, circle inspector of the Bidadi police.

In another accident reported in the wee hours of Monday, a 30-year-old man was killed instantly after falling off his motorcycle on Banaswadi-Ramamurthy Nagar Main Road. His relative was injured in the accident.

The police said the deceased, Somasundhar Hegde, had lost control over the two-wheeler while negotiating a curve around 1.30 am. He was returning to his rented accommodation in Ramamurthy Nagar from the wedding reception of a relative in Banaswadi.

Hegde, a native of Uttara Kannada district, had been running a computer hardware shop in the city.

Police inspector HM Meenakshi said the man had a helmet on and was not under the influence of alcohol when the mishap happened.

Hegde was riding the bike with his relative Nagabhushan, 22, riding pillion. Nagabhushan sustained injuries in the accident, and has been admitted to the Bowring Hospital.

Hegde’s body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination, the police said.
