Sajjad, a close associate of rowdy-sheeter Tanveer and AK Singh, was arrested by the KG Halli police on Saturday. Sajjad was wanted in more than 30 criminal cases.

The police said Sajjad’s criminal activities had peaked of late, as he had started supplying country-made weapons. After AK Singh was killed in a police encounter on September 9, 2010, Sajjad had stepped into his shoes.

“When AK Singh was killed in an encounter, Sajjad was among those who provided shelter to Singh and his associates. He entered the world of crime with the help of Tanveer and he started his own gang and is accused in more than 30 cases, including extortion, murder and real estate cases. Just four months ago, he was released from jail on bail. The police had  warned him several times, but he continued with his activities,” said a source in the police department.

The police are interrogating Sajjad and are yet to recover his weapons. The police suspected he was involved in the Diwana Ali murder, but adequate proof has not been gathered, said a source.

Ajith Kumar Singh, an MBA graduate who created fake debit cards, lifted high-end imported cars and supplied weapons, was shot in an encounter in Bangalore on September 9, 2010.

His driver Kabir had escaped and Sajjad had given him shelter. Also, the police had established Singh’s links to Dawood Ibrahim.
