Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is confident of gifting the city its first Metro on Ugadi.

The trial run will be with the stakeholders - carrying state and central government representatives, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and urban development minister S Suresh Kumar, on January 24.

“Stakeholders of state and Centre have agreed to personally inspect the line works, and the chief minister has agreed to take a ride from the Byappanahalli depot to MG Road station and back to depot on January 24. Then begins the extensive trial runs for the next eight to ten weeks,” said BLY Chavan, spokesperson of BMRCL.

The trial runs will be monitored by expert engineers and technicians from BEML, Hyundai Rotem (South Korea), Mitsubishi (Japan), MELCO (Japan), Delhi Metro Corporation, General Consultants, and Railway Safety Commission.

“By March 15 or 20, we should be ready after the inspection of the Reach One track, during which time a safety certification will also be issued. However, we will wait for an auspicious day like April 4 to inaugurate Metro’s commercial operations,” he said.

State home and transport minister would be present when BMRCL director N Sivasailam and BMTC director Syed Zameer Pasha sign the MoU regarding the Metro Bus Transit (MBT) passes. The approval for the fares is expected to come by next week.

BMRCL sources told DNA that the signature tune of the Namma Metro will see a soft launch on the day CM takes the train and flags off the much-awaited trial run.

The BMRCL also announced that the coaches, which are tested in the Metro depot, will reach Bangalore on February 15. These five trains will be shipped and sent from South Korea as the per the deal struck by BMRCL and the consortium of BEML, Hyundai Rotem , Mitsubishi, and MELCO. The rest of the coaches will be manufactured and assembled here in BEML headquarters in Bangalore.
