Bangalore mayor orders review of past civic works

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) appears to have suddenly woken up to the quality of civic works after the tragic death of Sanjana Singh who was killed after a wall crashed on her on Tuesday.

City mayor SK Nataraj on Friday said that a committee would be set up to hold a comprehensive inquiry into civic works taken up during the last three-and-a-half years during which there was no elected body steering the Palike affairs.

“It has come to my notice that most of the civic works executed during this period, when officials ruled the BBMP, are of poor quality. There have been a lot of irregularities too. We will book criminal cases against anybody found guilty, irrespective of the position they hold,” said Nataraj.

The guilty contractors would be black-listed, he added.
When DNA asked Nataraj about when the committee would be set up, he said that all measures have been taken to constitute the committee and very soon the details would be out.

Referring to Sanjana Singh’s death, the mayor said that he would
initiate necessary action against the culprits based on the inquiry report that would be submitted within 3-4 days. Once the report is submitted on the quality of infrastructure works, necessary action will be taken against the officers and contractors concerned.
