A 26-year-old woman killed her two sons before committing suicide at her house in Parangipalya under HSR Layout police station limits on Friday.

The deceased woman has been identified as Shilpa, a native of Kodihalli in Kanakapur taluk. The two boys she killed have been identified as Sanju, 4, and Papu, 1.

Police could not immediately ascertain the reason behind the woman’s act. Even her husband Lokesh, an employee in a private packers company in HSR Layout, and parents could not throw light on the incident.

Police said Shilpa hanged Sanju and strangled Papu. After killing her two sons, Shilpa then hanged herself in the house around 10.30am on Friday, when Lokesh was out for work.

Shilpa and Lokesh had got married five years ago and the couple were reportedly harmonious. An investigative officer said that Shilpa suffered  from epilepsy and was frustrated by the disease.

“We suspect that illness could have been the reason why she took the extreme step. We did not find any suicide note, and her parents have not made any allegations against Lokesh,” the officer said.

Shilpa’s parents Honnegowda and Jayamma, who also stayed with the couple and the children, outside the house when the incident occurred. When Jayamma returned, she found Shilpa hanging and her grandsons dead. Police said Lokesh had spoken to Shilpa over the phone around 9 am. Shilpa reportedly told Lokesh that she was washing clothes. Police are trying to check the mobile phone call details for possible clues.

The bodies have been shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination, which will be conducted on Saturday after inquest by the tahasildar of the area.

Police have registered murder cases related to the kids’ killing and an unnatural death report case in connection with the suicide of Shilpa.

Newly-wed jumps to death from 3rd floor of CRPF quarters
A 27-year-old woman, who had married a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable recently, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in CRPF quarters near Yelahanka New Town on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Sri Girija, a native of Narasapur near Kolar. Police said that Girija committed suicide by jumping from the 3rd floor of the CRPF quarters.

However, family members of the deceased alleged that she was murdered by her husband Madhu. Based on the allegation, police have registered a murder case and taken Madhu into custody for questioning.

The incident took place around 3am on Friday when she locked the house from outside while Madhu was sleeping and jumped from the 3rd floor of the building. She died on the spot.

The incident came to light when neighbours spotted the body.

Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital for post-mortem.

Chikka Krishnaiah, the brother of the deceased, alleged that Madhu was torturing Girija for dowry. He told police that Girija was extremely sensitive, and deeply humiliated. On Thursday, she had taken Rs500 from the pocket of Madhu without his knowledge.

Madhu, who came to know about this, scolded her. This could have led her to take the extreme step, Krishnaiah said.

Madhu and the deceased had got married in February this year.

Girija’s body was handed to family members after post-mortem at the Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital.
