Earth Hour, one of the biggest events organised to create awareness on global warming, is being observed on Saturday for an hour from 8.30 pm.

The city is all geared up to do its bit, with corporates making the most of the opportunity to showcase their green side. “We have been switching off lights, computers, and other appliances every day this week between 1pm and 2pm. Employees have been directed to switch off lights and equipment during the hour,” said the promoters of Shobha Developers. They’ve been directed to do the same at their homes.

ITC Hotels will also dim its lights. They will serve candle light dinner for an hour. The group is also proud of its ‘responsible luxury’ concept, in which the lights  are dimmed in the lobby and atrium between 7 pm and 11 pm as a ritual every day.

A solar-powered ATM will be inaugurated at the BTM Layout on Saturday to commemorate the Earth Hour, announced ING Vysya Bank.

At the Bengaluru International Airport, passengers will pledge their support through a signature campaign at the arrival and departure terminals.

Baggage tags with the message ‘I support the Earth Hour, the best savings scheme in the world’ are also made available. Candlelight events are being organised at various venues, including the waiting area at the airport and city’s shopping malls such as Forum, Garuda, and Sigma.
