Bangalore bookies’ arrest yields property worth Rs1 crore

The arrest of Ravi alias Fighter Ravi, a cricket bookie, on Friday by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police has helped them seize property worth Rs1 crore, including Rs20 lakh in cash.

Addressing mediapersons on Saturday, city police commissioner Shankar M Bidari said that after obtaining information that illegal betting was taking place in Vyalikaval, a police team led by assistant commissioner of police (special enquiry) BM Nyam Gowda arrested Ravi and two of his private security guards, Vipul and Vinod.

The police seized Rs20 lakh cash that was collected from punters, who had placed their bets during various matches in the past one week. Apart form this, 25 mobiles phones, three laptops, eight mobile SIM cards and two sheets containing details of the person and the amount involved in betting, were also seized. The police also seized two vehicles from the arrested.

Bidari said that Ravi had deployed two security guards for his protection. They had in their possession two .32 revolvers and 12 bullets. The weapons have been seized.

The commissioner also said that said that Ravi was in touch with other bookies in the state, Mumbai and Delhi and used to regularly transact with them.

Bookies flee city
Meanwhile, following the arrest of Ravi, many bookies operating from within the city have fled and are now functioning from neighbouring states, Bidari said. “We have information that the bookies left for Hosur and other places in Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu and also to Chittoor and Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh,” Bidari said.
