A 20-wheeler army truck fell into a tank at T Begur near Nelamangala on Saturday resulting in the death of the driver and injury to cleaner. Police said the truck was on its way to Delhi and the incident took place at around 11am on Tumkur Road. The deceased truck driver Satpal Singh and the injured cleaner Pal Singh are natives of Punjab.

Dr S Prakash, circle inspector of Nelamangala police station, said the incident happened when the driver tried to avoid hitting a two-wheeler. He took the truck into extreme left and the vehicle swerved and fell into the tank. The driver got stuck under the vehicle and died.

Police said the truck was carrying two army vehicles and other materials including life jackets to Delhi from the BHEL here. Totally four such trucks had left the BHEL on Saturday morning and this was the last one.

The police rushed to the spot on getting information. They recovered the body of the driver and rushed the injured cleaner to a nearby hospital. Four cranes are being used to lift the submerged vehicles and the police expect to finish the operation by late night. The body of Satpal Singh was shifted to the Nelamangala Government hospital for post-mortem examination. “We have informed his family about the incident. They may reach the city by late night. So, we will conduct the post-mortem examination on Sunday and will hand it over to his relatives,” Prakash said.

A case has been registered by Nelamangala police about the incident.
