Taking a cue from social activist Anna Hazare’s movement against corruption, Karnataka too came up with a state-level forum to root out corruption at all levels in the government.

After a day-long meeting, the freedom fighters, social intellectuals, former judges, former ministers, farmers’ leaders and dignitaries of various fields decided to constitute ‘Karnataka Jana Jagruthi Vedike’ to fight against the menace. Office bearers were also elected for the forum, but an official announcement will be made in a day or two at Freedom Park, said one of the leaders.

Retired judge of Supreme Court, justice MN Venkatachalaiah will be the chief promoter of the forum and senior freedom fighter HS Doreswamy was appointed the convener. Former minister and renowned advocate AK Subbaiah will preside over the forum. The meeting was attended by former speaker Rameshkumar, farmers’ leader KS Puttanaiah, socialist leader Kadidalu Shamanna, former minority commission head CS Dwarakanath and several others.

The leaders will travel all across the state to create awareness among the youth, farmers, students and labourers. The Forum’s one-point agenda is to ‘root out corruption in the state’.
