Governor HR Bhardwaj said on Sunday that he would send a report to president Pratibha Patil once the Lok Ayukta submitted its report on mining scam.

Asked if there was a possibility of president’s rule in the state, Bhardwaj said he had not received any request on this.

“It depends on the situation after the report is commissioned,” he said.

On the leak of portions of the report to the media and whether he had been asked to intervene, Bhardwaj said, “We’ve not reached that stage. The Lokayukta has cognizance of their work as well as the Supreme Court. However, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh should come be under the scanner for illegal mining,” he said.

“I have never asked Santosh Hegde to give me a report. If he chooses, I am the competent authority to handle the government,” he said.

“The media should appreciate my position as the state government had already made me controversial for no reason,” he said.

On phone tapping of the Lok Ayukta, Bhardwaj said no one had complained to him.

“The aggrieved party, that is Lok Ayukta, and those with a grievance should approach the government. I have no role to play in this. If the Lok Ayukta wants me to do anything within my responsibilities, I will do so,” the Governor said.

On black money debate, the Governor said, “Is Anna Hazare an expert on tax or does he know anything on international law? Who is that other fellow... Baba Ramdev… he has no expertise to talk about such issues. In fact, since all laws were defective, people were insecure and stashed money abroad,” he said.

Cong cites Hegde case
Opposition Congress intensified its demand for BS Yeddyurappa’s resignation on Sunday by sending a petition to governor HR Bhardwaj, demanding him to take action against Chief Minister Yeddyurappa for his involvement in illegal mining and tapping of Lok Ayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde’s phone.

The delegation led by G Parameshwar, president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and Siddaramaiah, leader of opposition in legislative assembly, met Governor Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan and submitted the memorandum to initiate action against the BJP government based on the Lok Ayukta report on illegal mining.

After meeting Bhardwaj, Parameshwar said, “Governor Bhardwaj has assured that he will act according to the law. We demanded that he order for an inquiry into the phone tapping and also initiate action against minister VS Acharya, V Dhananjay Kumar, and AG Kudagi. He responded positively.”

He also pointed out how former Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde resigned in 1988 immediately after a similar telephone tapping scandal was unearthed.

The party will continue to protest, demanding the chief minister’s resignation.
