Perhaps, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) knows the urgency to complete a project more than the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The project to lay new water supply pipes and sewerage lines on the stretch of Hosur Road, which the water board had started on December 20, is almost complete.

The work was speeded up due to the upcoming Aero India 2011, kick-starting from February 9.

In view of the event, the traffic police had instructed the BWSSB to complete the work by the end of January. “More than our instruction, it was the Aero India 2011 that speeded up their work,” said additional commissioner of police (traffic), Praveen Sood.

The traffic police said that unavailability of the Hosur Road stretch would have brought a bad name to the city as many foreign dignitaries were expected to gather at the Nimhans Convention Hall, the venue for Aero India 2011 technical seminar sessions.

“The relaying of the stretch will be completed soon. We are already allowing vehicles and there is a lot of congestion as vehicles move on the stretch filled with stones and mud. Once asphalt is laid on the road, the movement of vehicles will be faster,” an officer said.
The road was partially closed to allow the BWSSB to replace half-a-century old water and sewerage pipes.

The traffic police said the BBMP was slow in finishing infrastructure projects compared to the BWSSB. The work on a storm water drain being re-laid at Magrath Road is moving at a slow pace. “We do not know when the Magrath Road stretch will be open for traffic. We also do not know when the underpass work in front of Indian Institute of Science gate will be completed. This is because the Tagore Circle in Basavanagudi is still hanging as the work is progressing at snail’s speed,” a senior officer said.
