While one would imagine everyone’s dream job would entail the perfect work environment, in the case of IT companies, it is a different story.

While it is no surprise that the likes of Infosys and TCS topped the charts when they became the people’s preferred choice of employers, it is companies such as iGate Patni, and Rolta, which provide their employees the most satisfying workplace environment.

Unlike its competitors in the big league, HCL Infosystems was the only leading IT player to be ranked highly by its employees, based on a survey by IT journal Dataquest, in association with CyberMedia Research.

Despite the economic slowdown, HCL Infosystems managed to provide its employees with an impressive work culture, appraisals, job content, salary, and training, which placed it in the No 1 position. Securing the second slot was Rolta India for its employee- friendly HR policies. Flexibility too contributed in keeping its employees satisfied and productivity intact.

Retaining its No 3 position, iGate Patni was chosen for providing its entire workforce with appraisals and timely HR interventions.

“My friends were very sceptical when I chose iGate over other big companies. In fact, the recognition and job responsibilities I get here is immense; it is difficult to imagine getting the same in a big company where you are one among the thousands,” said an iGate Patni employee.

Though it is true that small companies have to pay more attention to their HR practices, ultimately, what really matters to the employee is the job satisfaction. Feel-good HR policies like visually attractive campuses with shopping malls etc, have taken a back seat, which is what most big companies offer,” said Shyamanuja Das, editor, Dataquest.

“Youngsters today have started looking beyond the brand name that big companies offer. They are ready to quit known brands and join a start-up if there is better job satisfaction,” said an HR expert.

The survey had close to 200 companies and over 3,000 employees. Employees were also asked to name their dream company for a job. The top three preferred choices turned out to be Infosys, TCS, and IBM India.
