With air bases located at places a distance away from homes, the contact that people have with the air force is in spurts and burst.
“Youngsters have a lot of career options today and we wanted to remind them that the Air Force is one of them too,” said Wing Commander MK Srivatsav, explaining the motto of the two-day Air force exhibition at the Orion Mall in Rajajinagar.
If youngsters in Bangalore are the target, what other place than a mall in the city one can reach, added the Wing Commander.
“We wanted to show the youngsters that the Air Force is an exciting place to be in,” he said.
With air bases located at places a distance away from homes, the contact that people have with the air force is in spurts and burst.
“Independence Day, Republic Day or the annual air show, these are the occasions when people think of or come in close contact with the Air Force. This exhibition was a concerted effort to change that,” said Srivatsav.
He added that the second reason behind the exhibition was to encourage, motivate and seek out the youth of Bangalore.
“In our day, it was medicine, engineering or the Army. Youngsters have a lot of options today. We wanted to remind them that the air force was definitely one of them,” said the Wing Commander.
“Moreover, the air force has advanced a lot technologically and we need people with enhanced skills,” he added.
If the crowd at the career guidance stall was anything to go by, the exhibition has generated a lot of interest among young students.
“Almost all youngsters who walk into the exhibition had questions — what kind of opportunities there were, how to apply, when to apply, details about the process of examination and selections, and so on,” said an Air Force officials.
“A lot of people are very eager to know about the details and some are quite serious. A few people have already done quite a lot of research about the Air Force and opportunities available here. It was quite heartening to see the response,” he added.
