A railway travelling ticket examiner (TTE) was booked for assaulting a traffic constable, who was on duty near the BBMP head office at Hudson Circle, on Tuesday night. In another incident, a traffic cop was assaulted by a shopkeeper in Journalists’ Colony, off JC Road.

In the first incident, the traffic constable was on a routine duty, checking for drunk driving, when the TTE, who tried to escape, was caught, resulting in a skirmish and assault.

The injured constable, Narayanaswamy of Ulsoorgate police station, in his complaint alleged that the TTE, instead of cooperating with him, beat him up after a heated argument.

Police identified the TTE as Chandrashekar Rai attached to the city railway station. He was driving a four-wheeler, when he was stopped near Hudson Circle around midnight. He tried to escape by reversing the car, but was forced to stop with the help of barricades. An angry Rai picked up a quarrel with the cops after they tried to make him undergo an alcohol test. He also slapped Narayanaswamy.

The TTE, who was under the influence of alcohol, was taken to the police station for assaulting the constable. He was later arrested and produced in the court, where he was fined Rs1,800.
The police found that Rai was caught for a similar offence on July 5 and had given a different address at that time.

In the second incident, Maqsood, was repairing a car on the road, when a constable asked him to clear the road to avoid a traffic jam. Angered by this, he allegedly abused the constable, Nagaraj, 28.

The agitated man also told the cop that nobody ever told him to clear the road. The constable, however, warned him about reporting the matter to his higher ups, to which Maqsood pushed and began beating him. He also threatened Nagaraj that he would be killed if he came near his shop in future.

Nagaraj sustained minor injuries on his hands and body. He filed a complaint against Maqsood in Kalasipalya police station. Maqsood was arrested, and produced before a court and was remanded to judicial custody.
