Want to go out on a holiday with your partner but wondering how to keep the vacation entertaining for children as well? Well, worry not as seeing the demand, travel companies are increasingly fine tuning their travel packages and customising them for your little ones.

In fact, parents prefer destinations that have enough activity options for kids.

“Kids are the key influencers in holiday planning. They play a big role in deciding the destination and the hotel. And the only thing that attracts kids are unique experiences and activities. This has boosted tourism in destinations that have wildlife safaris and adventure activities,” says Hari Nair, founder and CEO, HolidayIQ.com, a travel and holiday information portal.

In today’s fast-paced life, couples usually look forward to holidays to spend time together. “I could not recall the last time I sat with my husband for hours not discussing office or kids. I wanted that time together, but obviously could not leave my kid behind,” says Divya Jain, adding that going to destination meant only for kids was also not something she was looking for.

That is when she came across a package that was suitable for both adults as well as children. “It was a trip to Thailand. In one of the cruises, the trip manager had planned activities for children and it kept my son busy till evening. He learnt to cook three new dishes,” she says.

“We often get requests like these from parents. Of late, these requests have gone up... We make sure to include activities wherein kids can have fun. We have trained supervisors who keep kids engaged all day long,” says Ashwin Narayanan, COO, Travel Tours Group.

Sunaina Gandhi, a media professional, planned a trip to Malaysia with her husband and two kids.
The organisers took the kids to a theme park. “I stayed back with my husband in the hotel and spent time watching movies and interactingwith other parents,” she says. It is a win-win situation for both parents and children. Sunaina and her husband could sit back and relax, whereas their kids had a gala time at the theme park.

A survey by TripAdvisor, a travel portal, reiterates the trend. The survey indicates that parents see travel as part and parcel of holistic learning with as many as 97% respondents saying they consider travel important for their children’s education.

Hence, parents seek out holidays that will have ample activities for children. For instance, Ganesh Shankar has booked a package for Dasara holidays to Singapore. “I have made sure that my eight-year-old daughter does not get bored there, since we are taking our parents along,” he says.

Keeping in minds his parents’ age, he could not plan something that would excite his daughter as well. Hence, he went for a package wherein his daughter will be taken to a zoo, theme park and will be taught local dance.
