Election commission strict on distribute of illegal liquor, money or gifts

The election commission in state has planned well to curb the illegal distribution of liquor, gifts, transportation of money and checking extravagant expenditure which are the key factors that contribute to election malpractices.

The commission has asked excise department to submit the report of liquor sale in state and transport to other state from distilleries. Even it has maintained check post in every state boarders to monitor illegal liquor and money transport. Every assembly areas have three static surveillance team to check liquor and money distribution during election. Also the intelligence squad will keep observing the malpractices related to election.

"We have formed teams in every district level to curb illegal distribution of liquor and money during Lok Sabha elections. Every state boarders are having check posts. Apart from boarder check posts,the forest department, excise department, police department, customs, road transport and other departments are working to curb the supply and distribution of illegal liquor supply inside the state," said V Ponnuraj, special officer, elections.


The deputy commissioners have formed three special static surveillance teams in each assembly area. They will keep a watch on supply and distribution of illegal liquor,gift and money, he added.

We have asked the excise department to maintain the every record of liquor being supplied during the election and compare the statics with previous year's data. "We will review every record of excise department and check the static of which liquor outlet is varied from last year to this year. Varies in 30% and above will be suspicions and we will hold inquiry and ask for explanation. In case if we find that liquor is used for election purposes then we will be pursuing with the legal action," he added.

Even the distilleries have to explain about the sales and transported liquor to neighboring states. Since the loaded truck permitted to other state can be diverted in state and misuse of load, we are maintaining a 'real time monitor' where driver is directed to drive vehicle on the given route and send flash SMS in every point. Same will be continued in other state also, Ponnuraj briefed.


The existing police intelligence and Excise Vigilance squad will conduct inspections in suspected places, he said. Already two cases being registered and seized one truck at Karwar of Karnataka and Goa state boarder carrying Rs 34 lakh worth liquor while in one more case in Bijapur district, he said.
