At MindTree, the global IT solutions company, 2010 also ushered in the 10th anniversary celebrations of the organisation. And on Day 2 of the New Year, there could have been no better way than to gather the entire, big “family” at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), near Peenya.

Sporting red wrist tags, the families of MindTree employees had fun during the day-long celebrations. After participating in events like the haasya yoga (laughter yoga) and having their fill of laughter, the families then gathered at the hall for a scintillating performance by Bangalore-based Indian folk/fusion band Swarathma.

The most awaited event of the day, however, was the drumjam facilitated by Roberto Narain, drummer/ percussionist of Drumjam.

Drumjam and MindTree volunteers handed out to the employees and their family members percussion instruments like coloured tubes aka boom wackers, tambourines and small drums. Each person equipped with a coloured tube was ready to make some noise.

Roberto got the 5,000-odd gathering start by giving them a sound treat, playing the drums on the centre-stage.  He then requested the audience to match his beat and rhythm. The hall transformed from random noise to precise beats that reverberated for long.

As the tempo picked up and the crowd got comfortable with their percussion instruments, Roberto directed them to the beat of “We will, we will rock”.

Thumping the coloured tubes some even sang along the beat. Sitting in circles and beating the tubes in tandem were colleagues; some mothers sat with sleeping toddlers on their laps, nothing stopping them from participating in the drumjam.

Children seemed to be having a fun time beating the tubes on the ground, as much as older folks. The post-lunch activity ensured everyone was wide awake and fully charged.

A sight in itself, many sat on chairs arranged around the centre-stage, while others made themselves comfortable on the carpeted floor.
