A dispute has started between Naroda Enviro Projects and the civic body over tax payment. The civic body slammed a property tax notice to the Naroda Enviro Projects, to the tune of Rs 10 lakh, on Tuesday. The Enviro Projects company, on the other hand, has asked the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to repay them for whatsoever tax they have paid so far.
The AMC, on Wednesday, had sealed the Waste Hazard Landfill site of Naroda Enviro Projects, citing that the occupiers have undertaken construction on the land and have indulged in commercial activities, a gross violation of the conditions on the basis of which the land had been allotted.
"We have inspected the site and have found that the specific land which was allotted to conduct several environmental awareness activities, including land capping and processing of hazardous industrial waste, was being misused. Hence, we had imposed commercial tax on it and then sealed the property. They have not paid tax since 2014-15," said JS Prajapati, deputy municipal commissioner of east zone.
The occupier of the land, on the other hand, said that the plot has never been used for commercial activities. "The plot handed over has oxidation ponds, as directed by the Gujarat high court – to set up "Treatment, Storage & Disposal Facility", which has zero commercial value. So, no tax can be levied for the utilisation of the land. However, we are still paying property tax on the same. The AMC is required to refund us," said Shailesh Patwari, chairman of Naroda Enviro Projects.
He further added that they will approach the HC to settle the matter as the Paryavaran Mandir on which the tax has been imposed, has never been used for commercial purposes and that they have been maintaining it well.
