Authority at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is proudly claiming that they have fixed the bad roads which were washed away during the last monsoon. After Gujarat High Court slammed civic authority over the bad roads and failing to provide basic infrastructure to the citizens, AMC has mulled a new policy and technology for the roads.

The civic body had fixed around 185 km of road network using this technology. However, now the stretch lies completely damaged. Out of this, the 27-km stretch is partially damaged with life-threatening potholes. The patchwork was repaired. But, now there is no guarantee if the roads would not break after monsoon.

They have introduced Silane Nanotechnology by using anti-stripping agent in hotmix material of bitumen. AMC has started fixing the roads by using this method. The technology was recommended by Planning Commission in 2014 for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, for the village roads which are not repaired every year and this technology gives sustainability.

"In August 2017, the state government issued a general regulation for roads mentioning this technology, which is chemically bonded and water resistance. After the introduction of this in hot-mix, this will reduce potholes in roads, prevent cracking and will be sustainable," said Municipal commissioner, Mukesh Kumar.

"This technology also helps to prevent premature failures of roads caused due to high rain and extremely hot temperature and maintain surface integrity," added Kumar.

However, Kumar refused to comment for the guarantee of the patchwork which has been done this year would remain intact.
