The Gujarat government has increased the annual income limit to Rs 4.5 lakh for eligibility to avail benefits of the schemes for non-reserved category youth. The government had earlier fixed the total income of the family at Rs 3 lakh for schemes by Gujarat Bin Anamat Shaikshanik ane Arthik Vikas Nigam (Non-reserved category educational and economic development corporation).

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had convened the meeting on Tuesday to review the income limit and after consultation with his deputy and finance minister Nitin Patel, he decided to increase the ceiling of annual income of the family for beneficiaries.

Making the announcement in Gandhinagar, deputy CM Nitin Patel said, “We have received representations from the  Commission for non-reserved category, BJP chief Jitu Vaghani and other leaders from society over the income limit. They all recommended to increase the limit and after detailed discussion, the CM today gave nod to increase the income limit. The implementation for the same shall start from today only.”

Under the scheme, the government will provide assistance to young students from poor families of non-reserved category castes, for education fees, lodging and boarding, coaching, foreign studies and start-ups. The government, however, clarified that the relaxation in age bar would not be possible because of static rules. As per the criteria set by the commission, the assistance will be available to the candidates whose age does not exceeds 33 years.

“It will not be possible for  the state to relax the age bar for candidates as the SC order and constitution do not allow that. If the age bar of non-reserved category is increased, the age bar for OBC category also will have to be increased,” the deputy CM added.
