The Gujarat government on Thursday announced that 10 new flyovers on state highways would be constructed soon. The government has allocated Rs 487 crore budget for these 10 flyovers that will ease traffic congestion issues at different locations in major cities of the state.

The deputy chief minister Nitin Patel made this announcement on Thursday. He also said that the government decided to construct flyovers at many busy junctions on state highways and these ten flyovers would come up in the first phase of the same.

He said, " The government has decided to ease the traffic on highways and Rs 487 crore has been allocated for the construction of these10 flyovers. The flyovers will come up at different locations including north, central and south Gujarat, and Saurashtra region as well."

These flyovers will be constructed at Borsad on Anand-Karamsad highway, Dethli crossroads near Sidhpur, Navjivan crossroads in Patan, Bhuj-Lakhpat road, Modhera crossroads in Mehsana, Kadodara junction in Surat, Madhapar Junction in Rajkot, Raksha Shakti Circle in Gandhinagar, Gandhidham near Takor and Sindbad crossroad in Kalol.

The government has also sanctioned the project work of widening of highway between Mehsana and Palanpur. The 61km long stretch on the state highway(SH)-41 will be widened looking at the traffic burden.

"It is observed that the traffic congestion remains very high on this highway that connects Gujarat with Rajasthan and New Delhi. The transport vehicles from Mumbai to North India also pass through the same highway. Major towns like Mehsana, Unjha, Sidhpur and Palanpur fall on the highway and local traffic adds on to the congestion. The widening of the four-lane highway to six-lane would ease the issue," Patel added.
