Withdrawal of nominations in three categories for the elections of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) mean that now elections will be held only for the post of Vice President. Total eight candidates withdrew their nominations on Monday.
The candidates include Shivram Patel of Banaskantha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Regional Chamber category; Dinesh Patel and Navin Patel in Business Association – local category and Vijay Shah; Rakesh Patel; Ashok Patel; Mahendra Desai and Yogesh Shridhar in General – local category. This means that the remaining candidates in above categories have been elected unopposed. This had left Bhargav Thakkar and Hemant Shah alone in contention for the post of GCCI VP. With this, the constitution of Executive Committee of GCCI is final.
Incoming president of GCCI, Jaimin Vasa said he can extract the best from all the team members, which will let him lead the apex body for trade and commerce in Gujarat to ensure that the interests of businessmen of Gujarat are protected. "No one is perfect. It is necessary to work upon the strength of each and every person to bring the best out of them."
The Businesswomen Committee of GCCI needs to be constituted. A board consisting of chairperson, co-chair and member of committee need to be appointed. While the Constitution of GCCI provides for an election, it was decided in GCCI that until there are enough members in the Wing, no election will take place and office bearers as well as committee members will be decided through selection. It will be formed on June 2. Till now GCCI has received 33 application for different posts.
