State BJP president Jitu Vaghani on Wednesday deposed before the Gujarat High Court in connection with a petition filed by BJP's Balwantsinh Rajput challenging the victory of Congress leader Ahmed Patel in the 2017 Rajya Sabha elections.

Vaghani during his deposition said that he was present as the polling agent of Smriti Irani during the elections. He further said that he had functioned as the authorised representative in the polling booth.

Vaghani further said that during the election process Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil had stood up and tried to snatch the ballet which had led to verbal opposition by other members. He also deposed that Gohil had tried to create hindrance in the voting process when Raghavji Patel was in the process of casting his vote.

He said that Gohil had suddenly stood up and tried to snatch the ballot paper with Patel struggling to save it. He said Gohil was thus trying to influence the voters. He also told the court that until Patel had cast his vote and left the place the Congress had raised no objections. He also said that Gohil had also raised objections to Bholabhai Goehl's vote. Vaghani said that while the election commission took into consideration the opposition by the Congress to two votes (of Patel and Goehl), the BJP's opposition to two other votes (by Congress MLAs) was dismissed despite it being genuine.

He also denied that the BJP leaders were in talk with Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley on phone.
