Eighty percent users of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s pay-and-use toilets rated the facility "clean". This comes ahead of the Swachh Survekshan 2018 announcement.
The feedback was collected with the help of Interactive machines installed at 25 toilets in the city. The machines had three options to rate toilet cleanliness – red for dissatisfactory, green for satisfactory and yellow for average. Upon receiving feedback, the machines sent the data directly to the web portal of Swachh Bharat Mission.
"Average 80% of the user gave positive feedback," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, medical officer in charge of health, AMC. "According to them the toilets are clean. Around 20% users rated the cleanliness of the toilets dissatisfactory. The feedback system is helping us improve the management system immediately."
Till Monday, the data on the website revealed that the toilets in Cantonment area and at Amraiwadi got a 100% positive feedback while those in Thaltej near Doordarshan Kendra got 46.7% negative ratings.
"After getting feedback, we send our teams to the respective toilets and ask the managers over there to improve the condition and sanitation level based on the ratings," said Solanki.
The pilot project saw as many as 3,428 users registering their assessment of the toilets. The administration will extend it to another 300 pay-and-use toilets by the end of the month. "In two to three weeks times, we will install 300 units at pay-and-use toilets which will help us get citizens' feedback," said Dinesh Desai, Chairman of Health and Solid Waste Committee.
It is to be noted that citizen's feedback plays an important role in deciding rankings. Since the survey began, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has remained at 14th. The final rankings will be announced in April 2018. There are 4,041 cities and towns are in the fray.
After getting feedback, we send our teams to the respective toilets and ask the managers over there to improve the condition and sanitation level based on the ratings, said Dr Bhavin Solanki, medical officer in charge of health, AMC.
