AMC's annual carnival branches out to more venues across city

This year will be the tenth edition of Kankaria Carnival and to make it more memorable, the authority at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has planned to organise cultural events, outside of Kankaria Lakefront.

Performances have been scheduled at Vastrapur amphitheater and Sabarmati Riverfront as a part of the Kankaria Carnival. Kankaria Carnival is a week long festival held at the Kankaria Lakefront in the start week of December, since 2007. The event was marked to celebrate former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During seven days, many performances are being held like cultural and art performances. Daily lesser show is also being organized every year.

"It's been nine years, the celebration is happening at Kankaria, majority of the people located are eastern side of the riverbank visit the event, while to engage more people form western side, we are organizing the event at two more places other than Kankaria," said an official of AMC.

"This is a public event and for public, so that we want to reach out to maximum people we can, so that people take part at a large number and enjoy the event," added the official.

At Sabarmati Riverfront jugalbandhi of Pankaj Udhas and Manhar Udhas is going to have, which according to the authority is it happening for the first time that the Udhas bothers are performing together, ever. At Vastrapur Kabir Cafe is going to have performance.

It is to be noted that DNA did a story on how Kankaria carnival is losing its sheen over the year and authority has shown least interest for this annual event.
