6.28 L from across state apply for regularisation

The maximum applications, 3.05 lakh, came from Surat.

More than 6.28 lakh applications for regularizing illegal constructions were received across the state by August 19, the last day of submitting applications. Officials said the work for processing the pending applications would be commenced soon.

Diamond City Surat accounted for 3.05 lakh applications for regularising illegal constructions under The Gujarat Regularisation of Unauthorised Development Bill, 2011, the highest in the state. It was followed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), where 2.43 lakh such applications were received.

“A total of 6.28 lakh applications have been received for regularising the illegal constructions. Of these, 69,513 applications have already been cleared,” said an official.

The official said that the work for clearing the remaining 5.59 lakh applications would be commenced soon.

A total of 31,073 applications were received for regularizing illegal constructions in Vadodara city, while the number stood at 22,659 in Rajkot city. Among other municipal corporations, 5,462 applications were received in Jamnagar, 2,797 in Bhavnagar and 1,571 in Junagadh.

Around 16,000 applications were received from urban areas outside the municipal corporation limits in the eight districts. Just under 7,000 applications, 6,992 to be precise, were received from the 55 municipalities.

According to officials, already 45,141 applications for regularising illegal constructions have been cleared in Ahmedabad, followed by 9,877 in Surat, 6,300 in Vadodara, 4,156 in Rajkot, 1,079 in Bhavnagar and 86 in Junagadh. 1,980 applications have been cleared in the 55 other municipality areas.
