488 cases of malaria in 17 days in city

Four cases of dengue and one case each of chikungunya and falciparum malaria have been reported in the same period.

Even before the rains set in, mosquitoes have unleashed their terror. In the month of June, till 17th, the city reported 488 cases of malaria, which means an average of 28 cases a day. In the last week alone, 229 cases were reported. 

Explaining the rise in malaria, Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of health at AMC, said, “A week back, some parts of the city has received some rain. After that, the weather has become humid, which is very conducive for mosquitoes. We are trying our best to prevent mosquito breeding with fogging machines and anti-larva activities.” 

“People are also advised to not keep water in open containers,” added Dr Solanki. 

Four cases of dengue and one case each of chikungunya and falciparum malaria have been reported in the same period. Till June 17, the city registered 123 cases of jaundice, 166 of typhoid and six of cholera. As many as 1,357 cases of gastroenteritis were reported till the said date. Last year for the entire June, the city had registered 1,487 cases.
