The Ahmedabad Narcotic Control Bureau nabbed two men from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Domestic Airport of Ahmedabad and seized 10 kg of Charas inside an Apple box and Rs 2 lakh cash on Sunday night.

The accused were identified as Farooq Ahmed Reshi, 28, a resident of Sheri Baramulla of Jammu and Kashmir and Shakeel Ahmed Qureshi, 48, a native of Nagpada in Mumbai and currently living in Shah-e-Alam area of Ahmedabad.

As per Hari Om Gandhi, Zonal Director of NCB, "Working on specific inputs about the consignment of Charas, officials kept a watch at Airport, when a passenger matching the description got out of the airport with a box of apples and met the receiver, officials cordoned off the area and nabbed the two.

While searching the belonging of the two, officials recovered 10kg of Charas from the apple box and Rs 2 lakh cash from the receiver."

During the investigation it was revealed that Farooq had concealed the drugs in an apple box, somehow managed to get clearance from the three security checks at Srinagar Airport of Jammu and Kashmir and reached Mumbai Airport in the 636 flight of Indigo Airlines and from there through a connecting flight to Ahmedabad.

As per a NCB source, Srinagar airport has the highest security arrangements in India, where passengers and their luggage are checked three times by the CRPF jawans, and then twice by the Jammu and Kashmir Police before boarding the plane. If he managed to clear all check points and was able to transport the drugs to Ahmedabad, then it is a question of national security, the source added.

Further investigation of accused revealed that Shakeel is a drug supplier in Mumbai and Ahmedabad market. He has been dealing with MD (Ecstasy) and Charas. As per the officials, this was the first time he had transported drugs to Ahmedabad, but earlier he used to transport it to the Mumbai by taking domestic flights. Shakeel had brought Rs 2 lakh cash with him to the airport, which he was supposed to give to Farooq for his delivery, out of which Farooq was going to get Rs 50,000 and rest was advance payment for the next supply of drugs.

In the primary investigation it was revealed that Farooq's younger brother was apprehended in Mumbai for narcotics case and Shakeel was wanted in the case. The duo has been arrested under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(B) and 29 of NDPS Act, 1985 and will be sent in judicial custody on Monday.
