So you thought education fairs are mostly about those aspiring to do their post-graduation in foreign universities? Think again. For, the World Education Fair organised by Edwise on Wednesday saw queries even from students of class X.

The fair had representatives of universities from the UK, Singapore, Australia, Canada and the US. They fielded a lot of queries from the aspiring adolescents. Trisha Vatsa, country co-coordinator, SIM Global Education, Singapore, received about three-four students of class X and their parents, who wanted to explore the option of studying abroad.

She said even though the students are in class X, they and their parents want complete details about various options in front of them. She said many parents are keen on planning their children’s future early. She added that the young candidates she saw in Bangalore were serious and genuine.

Amit Malhotra, manager for South Asia for La Trobe University, Australia, had similar opinion about high-school students of Bangalore who met him at the fair to ask about his college.
Four-five students spoke to him about the college he was representing. He said the students and their parents want to be well-informed before taking a decision and that is why students as young as those of class X were attending the education fair.

Even hotel management, a course not considered popular until a couple of years ago, has drawn the attention of youngsters. Tim Rudling of Swiss Hotel Management School had five students of class X enquiring about the institute he represents.

He said the young students’ queries revolved around the course content, placement, eligibility for the course, exams and living expenses.

Jamie Avery, senior international officer of City University, London, said about 10% of the enquiries he received at the education fair were from those who would be applying for 2013, 2014 and, in some cases, in the following years.

He said it was a good thing that the students were starting young as this way, they would know what the right subjects are.
A parent of a 16-year-old at the fair said it is in class X that the students have to decide the branch they would be pursuing; it is better to find the options available in the stream of their interest.
