A day after the massacre by the militants, tensions prevailed in south western Pakistani city of Quetta as anti-terror police kept vigil during mass burial of the victims as the toll from the suicide bombing mounted to 65.

The toll climbed up as a number of critically wounded people died in hospitals, the police said and the condition of more than 150 others was stated to be serious.

The responsibility for the attack on Shias, the second in a week was claimed by Tehrike-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which warned that the group would launch attacks in the US and Europe.

The claim was made by Qari Hussain Mehsud, the TTP's suicide bomber trainer, who said "we will in coming days strike inside America and Europe to prove that we have the capability to carry out missions afar."

The Quetta city mourned its dead by observing a complete shutdown in response to a call by Shia leaders. Shias constitute about 20% of population in the city.

Quetta is the capital of Balochistan, a province where American's suspect that entire top leadership of the Afghan Taliban, including its supremo Mullah Omar are hiding.

The TTP had also claimed responsibility for the strike on a Shia procession in Lahore on Wednesday, that claimed 40 lives.

"Our war is against America and Pakistan," Hussain said. Attacks on the pattern of the botched car bombing in New York's Time Square will be carried out in Europe and the US soon, he said.

Hussain said the US administration's decision to place the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan on a terrorist blacklist showed that America is scared of the militants.

The bounty offered by the US for Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud and top commander Waliur Rehman proved that the Taliban had become "a headache for America," he claimed.
