A New Zealand student has reportedly bagged an offer of 36,000 dollars after putting up her virginity for auction.

The 19-year-old, from Northland, who listed herself as "Unigirl", announced on the website ineed.co.nz that she had decided to settle with the staggering amount that she intends to use for her university education, according to the Waikato Times.

"Thank you to the more than 30,000 people who viewed my ad and to the more than 1200 offers made. I have accepted an offer in excess of NZ 45,000 dollars (36,000dollars), which is way beyond what I dreamed," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her as saying.

The site defended the auction, saying: "Ineed does not place moral judgments on our members, believing in the fundamental rights of the individual."

The teenager described herself as attractive, and wrote: "I have never had a sexual relationship and am still a virgin. I am offering my virginity by tender to the highest bidder as long as all personal safety aspects are observed.

"This is my decision made with full awareness of the circumstances and possible consequences. I am fit, healthy and have no medical conditions of any nature. I am a keen athlete and have a trim physique."

Unigirl did not respond to requests for an interview, the Waikato Times and New Zealand Herald reported.
