Terming the prevalent situation in Jammu and Kashmir as a complete "constitutional breakdown", Awami National Conference (ANC) today demanded imposition of governor's rule and resignation of chief minister Omar Abdullah.

"For the first time ever since the state came into existence, the CM and his government has openly accepted that they cannot control the CRPF. It is a constitutional breakdown and not just the lack of law and order. Governor's rule should be imposed now," ANC vice president Muzaffar Shah said here at a press conference.

"It is high time that the CM resigns respectably. Now that they have accepted their failure, there is no need to weep over it. Omar should just now resign," he said.

Appealing to all the members of state Assembly to resign
as a mark of protest against continuation of AFSPA, Shah said,
the Centre should revoke it forthwith.

The chief minister had last night spoken with Union home minister P Chidamabaram and voiced his strong concern
over civilians becoming victims of action by paramilitary
forces.

While, state law minister Ali Muhammad Sagar has described as "totally unwarranted" firing by CRPF personnel on protestors in Sopore in north Kashmir, saying such action was adding fuel to the fire.

One person was today killed when CRPF troops opened fire
to quell a mob pelting stones on its battalion headquarters in
Sopore in North Kashmir. Yesterday, a youth was killed after
CRPF personnel fired rubber bullets on a stone-pelting mob
that had defied curfew in Sopore town sparking protests in the
Valley.
