France today welcomed the meeting of foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan saying that this contact will constitute the initial step towards the resumption of a "deeper" dialogue.
"We hope that this contact will constitute the initial step towards the resumption of a deeper dialogue and the resolution of differences affecting the relations between these two countries," a statement from the French Embassy here said.
After a 14-month hiatus, Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan -- Nirupama Rao and Salman Bashir -- met here for structured talks with an aim of ending the chill in the relations caused by Mumbai attacks.
