An ex-North Queensland Cowboys cheerleader could end up becoming the first Australian woman to play gridiron in the Lingerie Football League in the US.

Queenslander Chloe Butler, 23, has been flooded with offers from American teams keen to recruit the former Townsville schoolgirl.

Butler, who moved to Canberra to pursue running at the Australia Institute of Sport before injury forced her out, is excited by the interest.

"To tell you the truth, I love the sport part of it way more than the modelling part. I love the competitive side," the Courier Mail quoted Butler as saying.

At the moment she is in the cheer squad for the Canberra Raiders where her boyfriend Travis Waddell plays.

The one-time gymnast who grew up on a cattle property also takes care of people with disabilities, and isn't too worried by the skimpy outfits she will have to wear on the field.

"I just have to have a strong character and be proud of my healthy figure," she said.
