The Pentagon has warned that Donald Trump's anti-Muslim rhetoric weakens the national security of the United States and further encourages the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). According to ABC News, White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest said that they believe it is harmful to the country and contrary to their values.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said Trump's comments are damaging law enforcement and intelligence efforts to protect national security. The leading Republican presidential candidate said Muslims should be banned from entering the US, in the wake of the deadly California attacks.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said that Trump's comments were not constructive.
