Trained by former Olympian PT Usha, Tintu Luka of Calicut University (SNG College, Pattambi) ran the best race of her life to set a meet record of 2:01.92 in the 800 metres women’s final of the 70th All India Inter-University Athletics meet at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday.

Two other records were also set on the day as Navjoban Kaur of Punjab University, Chandigarh eclipsed the 5,000 metres record and Kirulkar Hemant Maruti of Anna University erased the record in men’s 100 metres event.

It was a typical one-horse race in the 800 metres as Tintu drew away from the other contestants and finished almost 10 seconds ahead of Ambika Sreedharan, also from Calicut University. Tintu’s timing was 2.07 seconds less of the national 800 metres record of 1:59.85 set by Shiny Wilson in 1995.
