Chandigarh’s Sujjan Singh and Delhi’s Himmat Singh Rai, with a three -stroke advantage, held the centre-stage ahead of the final round of the PGTI Players Championship at the Oxford Golf & Country Club on Thursday.

These two golfers are currently in the joint lead at eight-under 208. Bangalore’s Abhishek Jha, who broke the course record with an eight-under 64 on Thursday, is tied second along with Shamim Khan of Delhi at five-under 211.

Sujjan Singh (69-72-67), an Asian Tour regular, fired a solid bogey-free 67 in round three that pushed him from overnight eighth position to the top of the leader board. Sujjan, who was four strokes off the pace at the end of round two, made some tricky par putts on the first two holes on Thursday that sent his confidence soaring. He then picked up birdies on the fourth, fifth and seventh after sinking some long putts.

Sujjan added two more birdies to his card on the 13th and 18th holes. He holed a 35 feet putt on the 18th to end the day on a high.

“I started off with some decent par putts on the first two holes that got my confidence going. I made a crucial birdie on the seventh as that hole was playing tough. I hit most of the greens and made some long putts especially on the fifth and the 18th. I adapted well to the conditions as the wind switched its direction today,” said Sujjan.

Abhishek’s third round effort propelled him from overnight tied 25th to tied third. Shamim Khan (70-69-72) too grabbed a share of third place at five-under 211. Raju Ali Mollah, Mukesh Kumar and overnight leader Kunal Bhasin are tied fifth at four-under 212. Gaganjeet Bhullar lies tied ninth at two-under 214 and Anirban Lahiri is tied 11th.
