Parekh new CCI boss

Sevanti Parekh was elected the president of the Cricket Club of India (CCI) for a three-year term during the club’s two-day 75th annual general meeting that concluded on Saturday. Parekh beat incumbent Badal Mittal by 96 votes.

This was the first time the president or the executive members were chosen through a democratic procedure after doing away with the proxy vote system.

Fresh after winning the election on Sunday, Parekh told DNA: “We will try to make the club a better place than before and our priority will be to promote the sporting activities hereafter.”

Parekh praised the members for having such a peaceful and unblemished AGM.

Srenik Shah was elected the treasurer unopposed. Among the 15 executive members, five — Kapill Malhotra, Naval Pandole, Harjinder Singh, Satyapal Jain and Sushil Vaswani are new entrants.

Meanwhile, election observer Devesh Sharma said that among the 5,500 legitimate members of the club, 2,349 exercised their rights.
