Veteran Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson, who has won a record 11 NBA titles, is leaning towards retiring and plans to make a final decision next week, he told reporters.

Jackson, who led the Lakers to a Game Seven victory over the Boston Celtics last week, said he would complete annual medical tests this week and then consider his decision.

"I'm leaning towards retiring but I have not made up my mind yet," the 64-year-old Jackson said during a Wednesday news conference. "Some of it's about health, some of it's about ... that's the way I feel right now."

The coach, who won five championships with the Lakers and six with the Chicago Bulls, has considered retiring for several seasons.

"I've had vacillating feelings about it," Jackson said. "It's hard not to feel like coming back when you're speaking to these players and have an opportunity to coach a team that's this good. But, it's what I feel like right now."
