Strengthen their chances of making it to play-offs stage after this win

MUMBAI: Mumbai United strengthened their chances of making it to the play-offs by defeating Bank of India 2-0 in an Elite Division match of Mahindra Football League played at Cooperage on Monday.

While in the Super League match Central Railway (Mumbai Division) dumped Sea View Sports Club 5-0.

The city outfit is currently on second spot and pose a serious chance of making it to the play-offs. They have ten points from six matches while favourites ONGC who are on six points from same number of matches, have three more games to play.

Mumbai United’s strength being their midfield dominated the possession in the entire match. Their mid-fielders Diego Fernandes and Yusuf Ibrahim played very well in tandem to create some chances for their strikers up ahead.

Bank of India had even scored the goal in the starting minutes when Ubaid Ansari’s cross from right was headed home by Harish Bhoir but the referee signalled it as offside.

After it was all Mumbai United as BoI failed to pose any real threat to their opponent’s defence.

United went ahead when Diego’s run from the right flank bore fruit when he finished it to the left of the goalkeeper. They led the first half by 1-0.

MU’s Abdulgani Olawale did give some anxious moments but he couldn’t convert any chances.

But just three minutes from final whistle he doubled the lead through Yusuf Ibrahim’s assist to bag three crucial points. United mid-fielder Diego Fernandes was adjudged the Nature Valley Man of the Match.

In the earlier Super League tie, Central Railway (Mumbai division) thrashed Sea View SC by 5-0. Two goals by Asif Jamal and Chirag Shaikh and one from Ammrudeen Ansari did the trick for them.

n Final Score:

Elite division: Mumbai United (Diego Fernandes, Abdulgani Olawale) bt Bank of India 2-0

Super division: CR (Asif Jamal 2, Chirag Ansari 2, A Ansari 1) bt Sea View SC by 5-0
