Mumbai beat Orissa with a day to spare

Opener Sushant Marathe’s belligerent 105 (97b, 9x4, 5x6) helped Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai score a facile nine-wicket victory over Orissa in a Zone ‘A’ second-round match of the Buchi Babu tournament at the RKM Vivekananda College Ground here on Friday.

Orissa won the toss and elected to bat. Leg-spinner Parag Khanapurkar (4/19) and off-spinner Vikrant Yeligeti (4/ 34) helped Mumbai dismiss Orissa for 157 in 59.5 overs. Mumbai rode on Marathe’s brilliant century to reach 162 for one in 36 overs.
Southpaw Marathe was involved in a 67-run partnership for the first wicket with Swapnil Salvi. Marathe and Kaustab Pawar added 95 runs for the second wicket as Mumbai won with a day to spare.  Mumbai are all but assured of a semifinal spot.
