Manchester City is ready to make a bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney if his truce with manager Sir Alex Ferguson fails to hold.

Rooney and Manchester United had earlier denied report of a drift between them, but according to The Sunday Mirror Sport report, tensions between Rooney and Ferguson continues to bubble.

According to the report, Mancini, who is Rooney’s admirer, will ask Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour to give him 60 million pounds to bring in Rooney at the Etihad Stadium if differences between Rooney and Ferguson reached a breaking point.

City had earlier failed to bring Rooney at the Etihad in October 2010 when the latter had expressed his desire to leave United due to club’s lack of ambition, the Mirror reports.

But since then United have won the Premier League title for a record 19th time as well as reached Champion League’s final.
