Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) entered the semifinals of the Corporate Trophy by virtue of a better run rate following a three-way tie in Group ‘B’ at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
IOC lost to BPCL in the last league match by two runs in a rain-truncated match. Chasing BPCL’s 134 in 21 overs, IOC reached 132 for seven. However, a better net run rate of 0.1402 gave IOC the last four berth.
BPCL finished second with +0.0141 and Tata Sports Club ended at the bottom with—0.1025.
IOC opted to field and restricted BPCL to 134 for 9. Abhishek Nayar top-scored with 33 off 22 balls. BPCL collapsed from 95 for 2 in 13.4 overs to 115 for 8 in 19.1 overs.
Left-arm spinner Rajesh Pawar claimed three wickets and was adjudged the man-of-the-match. Though, Ravikant Shukla (47 off 50 balls) and Rohit Sharma (37 off 36 balls balls) tried to salvage an outright win, IOC lost the plot in the last over.
From 108 for 2 in 17.4 overs, IOC finished at 132 for 7 as they lost three wickets in five balls of the last over.
